Borgward was a German automotive manufacturer that traces its roots to 1905 and was founded by Carl Borgward. The company produced cars for three brands during its life span; Hansa, Goliath, and Lloyd. Borgward's first design was a three-wheeler called the Blitzkarren, commonly used as mail carriers. During WWII the company produced military trucks for the war effort such as the L1400. After the war, the company continued production with the introduction of the Borgward Hansa 1500 and 1800. By 1954 they produced their most popular model, the Borgward Isabella. This versatile car was produced in a variety of body styles; however, even the success of the Isabella could not keep the company afloat, and in 1961 it went out of business.
