For the 2011, Audi introduced a convertible version of the R8 V10. Known as the R8 V10 Spyder, this open top sports car was a variant of the Type 42 R8. The V10 Spyder was powered by a slightly detuned version of the engine found in the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 that sent power to all four wheels via Audi's Quattro all wheel drive system. This 552hp 5.2L V10 was paired to a 6 speed manual or automatic transmission (6 auto until 2012, 7 speed after). Production of the Type 42 Audi R8 V10 Spyder lasted until 2015, when the next generation Type 4S Audi R8 was introduced.
