When it launched for the 2005 model year, the Aston Martin DB9 was built on the VH I platform. This first generation of DB9 was built coupe and 'Volante' convertible body styles, and was powered by Aston's AM11 engine. The AM11 engine was a 5.9L V12 unit that generated 450hp when it was launched, but a technical update for the 2009 model year was power increase to 470hp. The DB9 was offered with a 6 speed manual transmission or a 6 speed 'Touchtronic' automatic transmission. Four main variants were built for the VH I DB9: Coupe - Manual, Coupe - Automatic, Volante - Manual, and Volante - Automatic. Production of the VH I DB9 lasted until 2012, when it was replaced by the Aston Martin VH II DB9.
