AM General is an American manufacturing company specializing in heavy duty commercial vehicle production. The company was founded in 1971 after AMC purchased the Jeep brand from Kaiser and turned Jeep's General Products Division into a seperate company known as AM General. The company is known for producing a variety of multi purpose military vehicles such as the M35 and M939, but it is most recognized for creating the Humvee (HMMWV), the iconic 4x4 military utility truck that would find its way onto the streets as the civilain Hummer H1.
